During the Spirit of Asia Journey, a team of Gaia School Asia is traveling throughout Asia to re-connect to the “Spirit of Asia”. Through our network and GENOA we are able to connect to local school and do teaching sessions on Climate Change and Nature Connection, for school children of all ages within Asia. At some pilot schools we spent more time which will allow us to go deeper and do practical projects with the children like establishing a school garden or tree nurseries at the schools as we have done in Thailand and India. This can also be done in out of school setting with the children from a village and we also can organize “Nature Youth Camps“.
We also look towards these schools to set up a volunteer GSA Nomad Teachers program in the future where we would be able to sent our trained permaculture and deep ecology volunteers to teach in our network of schools throughout Asia supported by local NextGEN Oceania and Asia representatives.
The Journey to the Himalayas
The first journey as part of the “Spirit of Asia” was the “Spirit of the Himalaya’s Journey” (June-October, 2013). Along the journey from Srilanka-India-Ladakh-Nepal, we have provided education on Climate Change and connection with nature for children of primary and secondary school ages throughout these countries & we build up valuable connections with many schools along the way.
At some pilot schools we spent more time which allowed us to go deeper and did practical projects with the children like cleaning the streets of rubbish, tree planting and establishing tree nurseries at the schools.

Along the way we met up with a lot of schools, principals and teachers and many schools would be interested in having volunteers come and teach English and Nature in their school.
In the first months of 2015 Gaia School Asia plans a journey named the “Spirit of the Maekong” to travel along the banks of the mighty Mekong in Laos & Thailand. More information about this journey will come available on the website soon. We hope to have a strong team of Gaia School Asia teachers and facilitators to make this journey a great succes!
May we help nature heal itself!
