Nature Youth Camp

The next Nature Youth Camp 2015 will happen from the 3rd until the 9 th of May.  The “Nature Youth Camp”  is a 7-10 days camp  for the children of  Ban Suai Lhong village and children from surrounding villages in the Nongh Khai province, northeastern region of Thailand. The “Nature Youth Camp”  teaches children in a fun and participatory way about nature . The classroom is nature and we spent most of the time outside in the fresh air. We work with an international team of facilitators/teachers/volunteers who help design and teach the sessions with us.

The Nature Youth Camp includes theory, English lessons, hands on work,  fieldtrips, many games and also deep ecology exercises related to nature. To organize this camp, we are supported and are collaborating with the local people from Suailhong village and the local government, the Provincial Government and also received some funds from outside donors.

The last Nature Youth Camp in 2013 (click and see pictures of Nature Youth Camp 2013) emphasized on life of trees, forest ecosystem, how nature (or Gaia) grows  forests, reforestation, how we can help nature to create a forest and how we take care of trees. Practically we have been collecting and selecting tree seeds, established a tree nursery at the school, planted seeds and went tree planting and are in the process of reforesting degraded land with the children. We have been planting trees with the kids  in the village and at the school ground where there is a need. We have spoken to the abbot of the Bhuddist monastery who has a piece of land where we can plant more trees.  He would like to see many fruit trees and we are willing to establish a food forest there.  The children have been highly involved in the process and we will continue to work with them. They now have the basic understanding on how to plant trees and seeds.

Interest in the joining as a volunteer in the Nature Youth Camp contact us & we ask a daily contribution of 150 bath for food from volunteers:
