about the master

Master Aphichat Sawaidee in his childhood, due to poverty, was sent to study in a monastery. He was adopted and ordained by Luang Pho Khamkhien Visalo the abbot of Wat Pha Sukato in Chiyaphume province. Luang Pho Khamkhien and Wat Pha Sukato was and is still famous for their Vipassana practice based in hand movement.

Aphichat, as a novice, got to study literacy in the temple as well as study and practice Dharma. After years as novice he disrobed and moved to live with his parents so that he could help them earn a living.

At one point at his 30th, Aphichat was observing a Tai Chi master instructing Tai Chi to a group of people. Days of observing did not make him believe in it. Until one day, he couldn’t hold himself back when the master said to his students he would show them how to fight with Tai Chi moves. Aphichat was all of the sudden interested. He took himself to stood in front of the master and asked for the fight moves. Instead of fighting  Aphichat, the master asked Aphichat to fight him by pushing him on the chest. Aphichat pushed the master in full force. What he experienced in that moment changed his life. As he pushed the master with full force his hand felt as if they where pushing into emptiness and in the same moment he found himself bounced back and fell on the ground. That was the moment he realized Tai Chi is real and he, in that very moment, realized he has found his path. He begged the master to take him as a student.

Aphichat lived and learn with master Chandej Puangchin started assisting the master to teacher later on. It has been nearly 20 years since Aphichat has been practicing Tai Chi and 15 years since he started teaching. Practicing Tai Chi regularly and consistently help Aphichat to understand the  Dharma teachings of Luang Pho Khamkien better. The Dharma teaching and Tai Chi practice align well for him. Master Aphichat currently live near by the Wat Pha Sukato monastery, practicing Tai Chi around his little hut and support the monastery’s activities.
